Parenting: Information On ADHD
Information on ADHD is widely available through the internet, your health clinic and local support groups. ADHD, or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, is a neurological condition which affects approximately 3-5% of children in the U.S. Whether you are seeking more information on ADHD or believe your children may have this disorder, it is a good idea to research ADHD and check if your child fits the symptoms.
The first signs are found in early childhood. Most children start to become recognized as having A.D.D. between the ages of 5 & 9 years. The condition continues throughout the school years and it is thought that 60% of children will carry some symptoms through to adulthood. It is thought that ADHD can be attributed to a genetic cause or to damage to the fetus brain during pregnancy of to the childs brain at or after birth.
Behavioral Signs
All children affected by ADHD are different and will display individual behavior patterns, each to their own degree of severity. Some signs to watch out for are inattention, implusiveness, over-activity, insatiability and social clumsiness. There are other signs as well and children with ADHD will display some if not all of the conditions.
Some more information on ADHD also shows that inattention is a major sign of ADHD. Many sights, sounds and other stimulation competes for a childs attention at the same time. This can cause the child to be easily distracted, flit from one thing to another and forget instructions. Some children with ADHD are also distant and dreamy at times.
